How TechUtility.io Works
Understanding our client-side architecture

What happens in your browser:

  • All text encoding/decoding (Base64, URL, HTML)
  • Hash generation (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, etc.)
  • Image processing and conversion
  • JSON/YAML/CSV formatting and conversion
  • Password generation and strength checking
  • QR code generation

External API calls (minimal data):

  • IP Geolocation (only IP address sent)
  • MAC Vendor lookup (OUI database fetch)
  • Password breach check (only hash prefix sent)
  • Gravatar check (only email hash sent)

Our servers never see:

Your passwords, personal text, images, documents, or any sensitive data. We don't have analytics tracking, user accounts, or data collection. The only storage used is your browser's localStorage for preferences like favorite tools and theme settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TechUtility.io?

TechUtility.io is a collection of free, browser-based online utilities for developers, designers, and everyday users. We offer tools for text manipulation, encoding/decoding, image processing, network analysis, OSINT research, and much more - all completely free with no signup required.

Is TechUtility.io really free?

Yes, TechUtility.io is 100% free to use. There are no hidden fees, premium tiers, or paywalls. All tools are available to everyone without any cost or registration.

Do I need to create an account?

No, you don't need to create an account or sign up. All tools are immediately accessible. We use your browser's local storage only to remember your preferences like favorites and recently used tools.

Is my data safe? Do you store my data on your servers?

Your data is completely safe. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device and is never sent to or stored on our servers. This includes passwords, text, images, and any other input you provide to our tools.

How does client-side processing work?

Client-side processing means all computations happen directly in your web browser. When you use a tool like the Hash Generator or Base64 Encoder, your browser performs the calculations locally. The data stays on your computer and is never transmitted over the internet to our servers.

Can I use TechUtility.io offline?

Most tools work offline once the page is loaded, as they run entirely in your browser. However, some tools that require external API calls (like Geo IP Lookup) need an internet connection to function.

Which browsers are supported?

TechUtility.io works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser for the best experience. All tools are also mobile-friendly and work on smartphones and tablets.

Are the tools mobile-friendly?

Yes, all tools are fully responsive and work great on mobile devices. Whether you're on a smartphone, tablet, or desktop, you'll have a seamless experience.

How do OSINT tools work? Are they safe to use?

Our OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) tools help you analyze publicly available information. Tools like the Password Breach Checker use privacy-preserving techniques like k-anonymity - only a partial hash of your password is sent to check against known breaches, never the actual password. Your privacy is always protected.

What is k-anonymity in the Password Breach Checker?

K-anonymity is a privacy technique where only the first 5 characters of your password's SHA-1 hash are sent to the API. The API returns all matching hashes, and the actual comparison happens locally in your browser. This means your full password hash (and certainly not your password) is never transmitted.

Can I suggest a new tool?

We're always looking to add useful tools! While we don't have a formal suggestion system yet, we regularly update our collection based on user needs and popular requests.

Why do some tools need external API calls?

Some functionality requires external data that can't be stored locally, such as IP geolocation databases or MAC address vendor lookups. In these cases, we only send the minimum required data (like an IP address) and never any personal information. We use free, reputable APIs and clearly indicate when external calls are made.

How do I report a bug or issue?

If you encounter any issues or bugs, we appreciate your feedback. Please check that you're using a modern browser with JavaScript enabled. Most issues can be resolved by refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.

Is TechUtility.io open source?

TechUtility.io is built with modern web technologies including React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. We believe in transparency and privacy-first development.
